Introducing Killswitch - A Letter From Our Founder

My name is Carlos Tavares, and I would like to give you a heartfelt welcome to our Blog.

Killswitch takes your existing charging station and turns it into an energy-selling machine.

Here, we will give you the best tips and tricks about using our payment system, making your charging site irresistible, and the general future of electric vehicles.

But that's not the main point of this post—I’m writing to you because I want to admit something.

You see, for me and my colleagues, Killswitch has been more than just a gadget for EV charging stations, but a labor of love that comes with a deeper story.

Coming from Lisbon, the largest and the capital city of Portugal, I've had my fair share of pollution that comes with living there, and I am sure that you can relate to this no matter where you live. As a country, it got to the point that we have even been sued by the EU over this common problem.

The cause of this pollution is nitrogen dioxide, and it primarily gets into the air from the burning of fuel - mostly in cars. 

According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), it causes 50,000 premature deaths in the EU every year and can trigger severe illnesses like asthma and reduced lung function, especially in children and the elderly. Nitrogen dioxide also harms the environment by causing acid rain, increased haze, and nutrient pollution.

Remember when people used to be able to smoke in hospitals? I do, but many young adults don’t.

In our own way - we want to make inner-city pollution a distant memory, a relic of the past.

Being part of the IT industry for the last two decades, I have diligently kept up with technology, and I’ve hardly found something that’s more exciting than electric cars. I will never forget sitting in one for the first time and being freaked out by an engine that’s completely silent and doesn’t run on toxic fumes.

Even though I don’t know the first thing about building electric cars, I did build an amazing team of talented people over the years. They make me beam with pride, and after bringing Veedeeo and many other projects to life, we developed Killswitch.

We noticed that there was no easy payment system for EV chargers - so we set out to make the easiest system possible. Scan a QR code, and every payment system under the sun will appear.

By having a robust, easy-to-use payment system in place, we are incentivising business owners and individuals to add more EV chargers, buy more electric cars, and step by step, end pollution for upcoming generations.
